Old ears, new beginnings
« on: 29 Aug 2016, 04:11 pm »
Hi there,

music has always been a big chunk of my life, whether I was playing or listening.

Last few years, I have been building and listening to my own speaker creations.

Now, an opportunity has arisen, and it will combine my love of music and the wonderful building materials my present residing location offers.
I will be building with earth's own core materials, such as onyx, marble and granite... but without the usual added heft associated with the substrate.

If all goes well, a new company will arise and offer enclosures that are as visually stunning as pleasing to the ears.

These are exciting times.

Thank you for having me around.

I love photos, too!

This is in its early stages though... but I already like where this is going!

Thank you there!  Yes, they are indeed quite special.

Working on the baffle right now, so not many other pics, but I will take a bunch of pictures with my good camera once it's finished.  For now, here's another cheap shot!  :)

Also working on a dark grey marble with white veins double sealed enclosures ... that too will be very nice.

Mr. triumph,
I am very curious about what you do.
May I ask where you get your raw material and where do you live.
Answers are optional,
but pictures of product(s) is a must.  :D

Glad I got some interest about my projects.

Well, stones come from all over the world, Brazil for an array of different stones, Canada for granite, Taiwan for marble, etc...
The factory itself is in Taiwan.  It is one of the very few (or maybe the only one) that can slice stone down to about 1/2 cm ( a little less than 1/4").  It is then laminated with fiberglass, epoxy and plywood or aluminium.  Think of it as a stone veneer!

I am in Taiwan as well.

Will post more as soon as I have more pictures to share.
This is only the beginning!

Lovely work. Looks as though a forklift might be required to move them   Keep us posted, an intriguing approach to speaker cabinetry.  8)

Thanks for your time answering my questions.
I look forward to read and see pictures in your next post.
I like to hear about people that do things differently with different and special material.

Ha!

They will actually weight about 12kg each once all finished... so, leave the forklift in the garage... these won't go through your floor!

Hi again,
may I ask what will be the approximate size of the speakers you will build,
you mentioned 12Kg, so I think they might be bookshelf speakers ????

Size is roughly 80x12x15cm... a little bigger than a bookshelf!  :)
It's a transmission line with a 4" driver.

Hello. triumph.

I hadn't noticed this thread till now, but I'm glad I did.

I live in Taiwan part-time and in Oregon part-time. I would be in Taoyuan City right now had my father's health held. I hope to be back in Taiwan by mid-November and stay until March 2017.

I'd like to know what prices you charge for a special order pair of floor standing cabinets delivered to Taoyuan. Once I'm back in Taiwan, it would be great to visit your operation to better understand your range of offerings.

Shoot me a PM if you don't want to post your exact location in Taiwan here.

My name is Michael.
