C'mon, this is The Lab, isn't it? You know - what's on the slab?

It looks like a tweeter, but obviously it's your new acoustic foam footers.

Heh. It's just a tweeter in a spherical enclosure made from Ikea salad bowls.

Tweeter is the Aurasound NSW2.

Nothing new there. Just cheap raw materials.

That's pretty cool looking.  Wonder if they make a bowl big enough for my Lowthers?

Hey!

 I thought about doing the same thing the last time I went to Ikea and saw those wooden bowls.

Take care,
Buddy :thumb:

Mark, Buddy: heck it's pretty easy stuff to work with! The finish on this one is a bit rough, I'll buy a hole saw the correct size for the final version (if I get that far).

Here's the eyeball set up for measuring:

As you know, you can take a thousand measurements. To cut it down to two, this is the raw "in-room" response, with the mic at 1m and the speaker 1.1m from the floor. Shown with 30, 60, and 90 degree responses as well. The on-axis boost 200-300 is floor/ceiling bounce reinforcement, I believe.

This graph shows the on-axis, 30, 60 90, 120, 150 degree measurements with a 2 ms gate, after equalizing the on-axis response to flat, shown from 1 kHz up:

It's interesting that with a driver that plays down to 200 Hz, you can listen to it fullrange as long as you're careful with the choice of music. Once the EQ is in, I'd say it's promising although not the ultimate.

Finally got a bit more time to experiment with these. Here's the eyeball atop a sealed JX92s. I've been experimenting with crossovers at 300 and 800 Hz so far. Currently the bottom end is provided by a sub (just visible in pic below)

On the other side, I tried something different:
