I'm trying to decide if I want macassar ebony or walnut veneer for my HT3's and HTC.  Other than what is already posted here and on Jim's website, does anyone have anymore pictures to help me decide?

Hi Pugs,

Since you're still shopping/debating, why not send off for some veneer samples?  On line images will never do the veneers justice...

How do I do that?  Just ask for samples from a veneer company?

Some companies sell sampler packs, Macassar Ebony won't be in a sampler pack I'm afraid, but here's an example...

Gordy,
I am kind of in the same boat, though looking at different finishes.  Here are some websites you may want to take a look at.  Good luck with your decision.

wood-veneers.com

oakwoodveneer.com

glveneer.com

Formwood - Large selection, good sample pics, small orders from overstock list only

MacBeath Hardwoods - Online store, good selection of paper-backed veneer, watch out for the elephant sound

Certainly Wood - Large collection of exotics & figures, non-paper backed

B&B Rare Woods - Exotics, non-paper backed

Joe Woodworker - Small selection, but nice stuff, non-paper backed

Herzog Veneers - Small selection, but nice stuff, non-paper backed

Not that it matters, but walnut crotch is "sweet" looking.

Regards,
Jeff

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this pic I took at the show is of one of Jim's ebony pairs - http://www.bradjudy.com/audioblog/wp-content/rmaf/IMG_17601.jpg

Yeah, the chevron alignment of the ropey cherry (I'm guessing the wood from looking at them, didn't actually ask) was spectacular.

According to Jim's gallery pictures put up last week, they are Makore (African Cherry) with Madrone burl baffles.  The pair of HT1s are Camphor burl with Sapele (African Mahogany) baffles.

Pugs,
Here's a picture of a Salk walnut I took at the show.

It was one of my two favorites. 8)
