Hello from north Alabama
« on: 23 Sep 2017, 07:52 pm »
Hello all,
I stumbled upon this site. I am an audio enthusiast. Just trying to learn a little. I am planning on building a set of home audio speakers. I am more of a car audio enthusiast for now but this is due to financially not ready to take the dive in to the home audio scene just yet. I have 2 daughters in college.

  • To whom more was given more will be required.
    • Never go to a psychiatrist, adopt a straycat or dog. On the street they live only two years average.

Welcome Kenny,
It's a pleasure to welcome another speaker builder (or prospective speaker builder)  :thumb:

Welcome to the sweet spot.
Lots of good resources for DIY and kit-build options here (GR Research among others). If you choose well, you may not want or need to move "up" after you're done.

It's never been a better time for frugal audiophiles.

Many inexpensive options:
- using your computer with a $200 thumb drive sized DAC as a source such as Dragonfly or Meridian Explorer 2
- subscribing to Tidal (CD quality version of Spotify for $20/month)
- if coming up with a good listening space is tough, consider headphones/earbuds ($50 can provide very good sound)
- for desktop/small room listening several very good active speakers like $300/pair JBL LSR 305
- many good/highly affordable chip amps available
- check out Madisound or Parts Express for speaker kits

No need to invent a speaker, unless you like sawdust.

Hello and welcome to AC, ckmmkc!  When you do decide to build maybe you could share the build with us and document it here on AudioCircle.
