Ok. I'll do a video this afternoon.
Alright Jerry, and Greyhound, Here's the video.

Since the general consensus and overall mindset of this site is anti-gun (which is why we have the rules we do), please be aware that this link will lead you to a video containing the firing of a gun against a defenseless airbag. So if you click this, please make sure you have your big boy pants on.

(Oh...I've never sighted it in, so please don't laugh at my aim)

I am sooo glad we didn't have the internet when I was young...

And airbags. I'm glad we didn't have those, too.  8)

Sweet Bob. Must confess I was expecting a more explosive deployment, but good clean fun for sure.  :thumb:

I had to read that a few times to get it.

This is an explosive device you're messing with.

Soo... where do you poke it to make it go off??  :icon_twisted:

Arthur, Yes indeed. ON one hand I was hoping for something more exciting, but on the other I was careful what I wished for, ya know?  :o

John, I poked around with a 9 volt battery and a paperclip, but I couldn't get anything to happen so I gave up and shot it.  :icon_twisted:

Nice of you to treat it to a drink but it sounds like it wasn't about to go off anyway!

Bob I'm just kidding (as I was before). No doubt there is a sensor in it that will trigger the device, I was just wondering. This must be a general problem in all modern cars, though, right? I mean, if my Mini lasts another 10 years, it will be 16 years old, how would I know it wasn't just going to blow up in my face any time (or conversely, not, when it should)?

Well, the simple answer is that you wouldn't know.
If there were a problem preventing it from deploying when it should, that should create an SRS failure light, since such things are monitored. But there's no way to know if something is going to cause it to deploy when it shouldn't.
I did look for Mini on the list, and it's not on there. I don't know if Takata made bad for them or not.

Oh, my car's not on the list, I was more just wondering in general. Heck, I learnt to drive on a car older than that and replaced the brakes, rejetted the carbs, etc, and I know shit about cars, basically.

Not sure if that list I posted shows cars for use in other markets though, so yours *may* be bad?

NO!!!!

My car's perfect. How dare you say otherwise  :icon_twisted:  :flak:

OK, well, I realize it's really all out of my control, but having replaced not just the turbo and all the injector seals in the last year I am hoping for a little smooth sailing now!

Now, where did I put that spare carbi needle.....

 Not only is it out of your control, it's out of the car manufacturers control.
Seems Honda and BMW took the brunt of the problems and it wasn't even their fault.

Interesting and ironic to consider the dangers involved in "safety" equipment. Have we got airbags for motorcycles yet?

I saw a motorcycle suit that inflate when the rider fall off the motorcycle
and doing so a rope attached to the motorcycle is pulled and the suit inflate.

Ohmigod. I've just suddenly realized. You've just turned an engineering question into a political question. And that's what you do again and again. That's why your name just keeps cropping up...
