Bargain vinyl that turned out to be quite valuable.

Looking through my collection last night I found that I have a 7" copy of the "Bu$hleaguer" single by Pearl Jam that I got for free from some one as a gift.

I looked it up last night and it tends to sell for $22-$35

Pretty decent return on investment

What albums do you have that turned out to be worth way more than what you paid for it?

I bought a Klaatu LP, Endangered Species, off of eBay, and in the description it said that someone had written on it. Well, turns out it was autographed by all the members of Klaatu. Sad thing was that the band members names were clearly readable on the back of the jacket. 3 easily readable names in ink on the front, 3 names on back..........

I think the most valuable disc I have is ROXCALIBUR

A various artist disc of the local (North East of England) Rising Heavy Metal Bands.

Cover is a little battle weary but the vinyl is NM

NM copies fetch £50+ ($80) when they (very rarely) pop up for sale

Got to admit when I bought it I had no expectations of this.

It's interesting what ends up being valuable?

I think in this case it's due to the fact that this has the first vinyl releases of a few of the bands that went on to make a bit a name for themselves within the NWOBHM scene

I have an original (not the reissue) Wizards From Kansas album that regularly lists around $250 on eBay.  I got it from a record bin at Record Rama for a few bucks back in 1970ish.

About 20yrs ago, when my local classical station switched to CDs, I bought a couple hundred shaded dogs for .50 cents apiece. I understand they're worth considerably more than that.

A year ago I was digging around in the local community theater props and ran across some vinyl.  Came home with several Miles Davis lp's including Kind of Blue.  :thumb:

I bought 5 original Dischord 7" ep's back in the 80's for probably $40, sold them on eBay last year for around $2500. Had no idea that they where worth that much until I just happened on an article about them. I've got some rarer records but nobody wants them.

I'm so glad that progressive music became 'uncool' for a while until the mid 90's. Many people traded in their collections.

I was able to acquire some incredible Italian prog like -

Museo rosenbach - about $250

Pholas Dactylus - now worth about $450

Murple -about $300

De De Lind - about $500

And quite a few more of similar value.

They've held their value with CD reissues.

My best haul was a $0.10 album worth $200 if mint.
natually mine was 'less than mint'..
But I still got $20 for it from my favorite dealer.
I have found two other $100 or so 'if mint' Lps worth keeping for under a buck.

I buy mostly used Lps, and only buy them if near perfect, and cheap.
