New CDWG's NOW available
« on: 1 Apr 2011, 05:34 pm »
Brian announced yesterday that he has finally got the new CDWG ready.

He announced it in another thread HERE, but I thought it might deserve its own thread so those who read only the titles of threads might not miss it.

He wrote:

Well, it's time to announce the new generation of Constant Directivity Wave Guides, as defined by our US Patent.

As indicated previously, the new guides are simple add ons that attach directly to the mid and tweeter panels.  They are lightweight, lack baffles, are inexpensive, eliminate treble rolloff, exhibit less than 1dB insertion loss,  and may be used with planar drivers other than our own, such as DG Neo 8 and Neo 10, Hi-Vi, and EMIM's.

Beyond improving directivity, I find the new CDWG's positively influence sound quality in other ways, such as midrange smoothness, bass solidity (we just shipped a pair of RM40 to England with the new guides, and their bass sounded like the RM 50's for both extension and impact), naturalness, and of course, dispersion.

All this for $20/pair including shipping (intro price, one pair required per driver).

Pix to follow!!

He has been working on this for some time and finally has it to the point he feels they are ready for prime time.

I will post pics as soon as they are avaialble.

Hello John,
 I am interested if those are intended for classic VMPS speakers like super tower  line.
Do you anticipate when you will have pics and with possible drivers that have them installed?

The waveguides can be used on dome tweeters and ribbon supertweeters, but are not designed for cone midranges.

We are awaiting the arrival of Hans from Germany, our VMPS photographer, to get some (cell phone) shots with his new Nokia G-pod.

APRIL FOOLS!

Actually, as soon as Brian gets me a photo, I will try and post it.

Will the new CDWG require any sort of Xover adjust?

I will also try and compile a list of all the speakers and drivers these can be used with.

For example the Eminent Technology, Monsoon, Infinity, BG, HiVi, and Newform gear.

As well all the VMPS models and drivers.

Actually, I can see where this is confusing.

They are actually $20, but $40 per pair of drivers.

626 = $40
RM2 = $80
RM30 = $120
RM40 = $160

B, can (or will) correct me if that is wrong.

Hi Deric,

Yes the phones have been ringing off the hook and sorry to say you were caller 101  :lol: :lol:

They weren't steak knives anyhow, but they were Romanian Ginzu "stake" knives good for vampire stalking.  Maybe next April 1st we'll run the special again.

The lines are now open so you can call back.

How does the sound differ from the previous iteration? And how does it compare to not having them on?

But aren't these also for the panels?

That's $240 for a full set (12 pairs for 12 panels).

Highly recommended.

How do the steak knives affect the sound?

And how do you install them?

I need some help visualizing this:

do these replace my current wave guides or are they used with them?  I have RM30m.

Can you post some pictures?

Have you thought about a package deal that includes these wave guides and the auxilliary tweeters?

The system sounded very good last night. Hard to imagine it sounding better except by upgrading to the RM40 s
