All,
A friend of mine is looking for high quality speakers and he has $8000 to spend. Among all the speakers he had auditioned, he seemed to be leaning towards a pair of JM-Lab Electra Be 1027 ($7500), he said JM-Lab has the one of the most highly acclaimed tweeter in the world.. oh well oh well...I have personally heard the 1027, I agreed that the tweeter is sweet, but the overall presentation seems to be on the lean side. I want to recommend him a pair of speakers that I think can beat the 1027 but at ...
Hi Barry,
While I have heard the 1027, I haven't had opportunity to hear both the RM40 and the 1027 in a(n) A/B in the same system/room set up.
I felt the 1027 was a "beautiful example in its cabinet and finishing" and the sound was typical of high end dynamic cone designs in that price range.
That said, I would suggest that the RM30 would also provide a level of performance competitive with that model overall, at an even lower price point.
For example:
RM30 LF = 35Hz F3
1027 = 38Hz F3
RM30 = 125# each
1027 = 72# each
RM30 crossover points = 280Hz and 6.9Khz
1027 = 350Hz and 2Khz
RM30 = 92db
1027 = 91db
So all in all, your friend could even look seriously at the RM30 in that performance arena.
I would think that the RM40 would be a step up from there, if the room was of sufficient size to support (or requiree) its higher performance capabilities.
