Beebop, where do you buy your XRCDs?

Sw, I got this from the Canadian distributor for XRCD - May audio. They show up on the web as http://www.mayaudio.com/mayaudio/home.asp. Their invoice shows them as 3390659 Canada Inc.. They are straight shooters as far as I can tell (be careful about dealing with numbered companies in Canada - if they do not establish a brand, how long are they here for?), and they seem to be the XRCD approved distributor for XRCD recordings in Canada. I paid $C 45 for the Heifetz (O I am not worthy!) performance. They told me that they would give this to me as an introductory deal but that in the future they would add $5 for shipping and charge me $C 50 per CD.

I bought the Heifetz CD for the performance, and not for the work. You can find many good performances of the D on CD. I think this is an afficianado reproduction.

I am not sure what marketing space JVC wants to occupy with this technology. Early indications are that it is the high audiophile. Consider that you can get Gene Ammons' "Boss Tenor" in 20 bit K20 from www.fantasyjazz.com, as well as in XRCD from the JVC site www.xrcd.net. I have both on order and I intend to do a shootout.

I believe that XRCD's value proposition rests with the performance as well as the work. It currently seems to reside squarely in the 2 channel audiophile world. Whether they view this as an entry point or are going to take a stand here, I do not know.

For my money, it is all aboot the performance, and I do not mind paying a premium for the quality that XRCD provides; again, I am talking aboot a very good rendition of a quintissential performance.

In terms of the marketplace, the Canadian distributor is charging for delivery while the American is not, and they are charging more than the central bank exchange rate would justify. For Heifetz and Van Cliburn, I am happy to pay. For Gene Ammons, I am not so sure. But then, I have not heard either the 20bit or XRCD version of either.

Purchased Paul Oakenfold: Great Wall yesterday...

Some good trance and found it to be great for the 4.5 hr drive I had today...

My purchases have been severly limited as of late due to a lack of income.  But I should start my new job in the next week and I have a large order to Amazon to place!

Just picked up Eric Clapton's new CD, "Me and Mr. Johnson" - it's his best effort in years.  It's Clapton's tribute to delta blues legend Robert Johnson.

It isn't Layla, but Clapton's finally getting back to some blues.  Music is toe tapping, decent guitar work, and the sonics are really wonderful.  This is also out in 200g vinyl from Classic Records & Reprise is issuing on regular weight pressings as well.

Most recent pickups:

Velvet Revolver - Contraband
Phish - Undermind

Contraband did not live up to my high expectations - but all of the rest are excellent, and highly recommended. 8)

Last month I decided to buy Birthday CD's. I have restricted myself to just looking a few X's a year year now and it takes time for the Pawnshops to replenish their collection for me.

At Amazon I bought:
Bob Dylan-Desire
David Bowie-Hits
""        ''  -Young Americans
Bee Gees-Old 60's hits
Micheal Stanley Band-Live Stage Pass
Alvin Lee-Pure Blues
Eagles-One of these Nights
Warren Zevon-Bad Luck Days In Dancing School
Chris Whitley-Vast Horizons

Pawnshop:
The Crow-Soundtrack
Tracey Chapmen-?
Platoon-Soundtrack
Traci Bonham-2 Cd's
about 7 others for $30 total

Used CD Shop:
Wishbone Ash

CDR's from a few sources for Jazz\Blues and alternative I recieved 20 CD's which are really great. Trades welcomed for CDR Copies.

I have a listing of approx.50 more I would like to fill out my collection plus things I do not even know of yet.

Cannot wait till next year! Maybe by Xmas I will have my reference system together!

Latest CD purchases:
Brainbug-Nightmare
Electronic music single with four versions of a really cool song.
Pink Floyd- Dark Side of the Moon
A referance cd every audiophile should have
Kodo- Live at the Acropolis
Japanese Taiko drums-Not as musically engaging as I hoped but still interesting. Need to really crank the volume on this since the recording levels are low compared to other cd's. Good workout for speakers, really works the low end spectrum.
Gus Gus- T-World
ambient, techno electronic- two good tracks the rest rather disappointing, but listenable.
Jean Michel Jarre- Oxygene & Equinox
Two of the three classic analog synth music that made Jarre a household name. The third being Magnetic Fields, I have both on LP, wanted the cd's.
