SOLD SOLD: Gustard X20u with Level 1 mods completed
« on: 20 Jul 2017, 07:38 pm »
SOLD SOLD

This dac belongs to my Buddy who bought it last year and I performed the full (at that time) Level 1 mod to it and wrote about it in the Discless Circle-Gustard X20 (April and May 2016).  My buddy moved on to a T+A dac 8 DSD. SOLD SOLD SOLD

As stated this Dac has all level 1 mods completed (Check out Tweakaudio.com gustard x20 for details) minus the clock mod, which places a clock close to the dac chips .  I can do this for you if you like and would charge only parts cost.  Instead of the clock mod this dac has a very high quality pure silver cable (Chris VenHaus).  All other level 1 mods have been completed including quantum chips and extra damping that Ric discovered made a sonic difference and I confirmed.  It also has vishay ultra fast, soft recovery diode upgrade.  I can supply a driver that will allow this dac to upsample to DSD256 and with an external DDC unit such as the singxer SU-1 it can upsample to DSD512.  A Level 1 modded Gustard X20U will outperform a stock X20 pro.

The dac has the USB card.  It is overall in excellent condition with almost no marks on its case any are very minor.   With the mod this dac values at apprx $1250.  I am asking $620 for it.  Dac chips (there are 2) are the ESS9018.  Added Pics below, dac was only connected to Mac Air so DSD128 was highest I could show.

For those that don't know much about this dac, the X20 punches way above it's price point in sonic terms and build quality.  It also takes very well to modifications and those can really jump the SQ up above the stock unit.  When I was modding this dac I was comparing it to my personal finished level 1 dac and reported on the differences in the thread I mention above.  There really is no comparison to a stock X20 and a level 1 X20, sonically the level 1 is much superior.

Inputs:  AC set up for US 120V
Coax, BNC, AES and Optical- 16-24 Bit, 44.1-192kHz PCM, DSD DoP 64
USB- 16-32 Bit, 44.1-384 kHz PCM, DSD64-256
IIS- 16-32 Bit, 44.1-384 kHz PCM, DSD64-512  I can confirm this dac can play DSD512 via IIS as I did so with my X20u with a third party Chinese USB card and tapping into the IIS lines of the dac.  A singxer SU-1 makes this much easier.

Be well

Price lowered to $620.

I am pretty sure you cannot buy a better sounding dac than this for this amount of money.  This modded X20 will beat a stock X20 pro.
