There are some simple filters that can be included in the cable also

Any filter worth having is rather large and heavy. So think of it as a filter with attached cords. Also the cord from the filter to the hi-fi component should be  as short as practicable.

Oh, OK. Guess a number of cable makers are wrong. My mistake.

Not your mistake, it's the cable maker's mistake.
They don't have a clue about power line filters.

Which cable makers were you thinking of?
Because sometimes a ferrite choke is added so a computer or component can pass the FCC interference tests.

Yup. A Band-Aid to fix an issue that shouldn't exist, but costs too much to fix once you're at the compliance testing stage, or the Bean Counters nixed a proper design in favour of a 20 cent solution.

'fire alarm' cable is designed for power limited circuits.

'fire alarm' cable is designed for power limited circuits.

Belden also makes NPLF Non-Power-Limited fire alarm cable, although the Max Recommended Current of 12A per conductor @ 25°C for the 12AWG cable is still quite a bit less than the 20A per conductor rating for standard 12AWG power cables. (?)

http://info.belden.com/hubfs/ESD-Assets/Product-Pages/Copper/Cable/safety-fire-alarm-cables.pdf

Also the fire alarm cable doesn't come in 3-conductor, so you would need the 4-conductor cable for a grounded power cord.

Its a Belden  83802 I got from Audiyo a few years ago ,a  stiff red teflon with shield and two conductors  both 12 guage inside . I bought an extra 16 guage red teflon wire from Lees electronics and wrapped it on the outside  for ground sleeved up with red braided plastic ,red heatshrink on both ends and bolted on the marincos plugs. Made four 6ft power cables. Theres a 83803 thats three conductor but I thought the two conductor version  with outside ground wire was better cause its better flexibility to use. But its up to you .

The Safety Ground/Protective Earth wire/wires should be:
a] as large or larger in total cross-section area as the Hot or Neutral. (larger is good)
b] Be Green or Green/Yellow in color.
c] Be in close proximity to the Hot & Neutral wires.

Here is my DIY Belden power cables I made.If you look at the tiny piece in the center I tipped the ground wire at both ends with green heat shrink to indicate a ground wire and also you can see its configuration.
