Just thought you separated the shoulder??!    :o

Trust me....you're better of with a broken collarbone.  Severe A/C separation means all ligaments are completely ruptured.  Always worse than a broken bone.

I'm 4 surgeries and 34 years down the road after my A/C separation.  Pain and dysfunctional joint the entire time.  It's brutal.

I wish you well in your recovery, whatever your injury is.

Mam, I hate to hear that. I had a level 1 separation 4 years ago and I completely recovered from it.

A break isn't necessarily good either. I was in a car accident over 20 years ago that broke my left shoulder blade and top 2 ribs. I didn't have decent health insurance so got patched up in the ER and a figure 8 brace. No physical therapy or much else. Plus had to go back to manual factory labor after 3 weeks. To this day I don't have full range of motion without a catch at about shoulder height and go through interment spells where almost any movement is painful. Sometimes mild, others moderate or more.

So don't overextend. Let things heal properly and get appropriate physical therapy.

Wow, mlundy, that's another bad medical story.  Sorry to hear that.  I have good range of motion and no pain to speak of but that may change with age.

Now my right shoulder that suffered a torn rotator cuff and had surgery plus PT, that bugger is giving me pain almost every morning. :cuss:

Grade 1 A/C separations are very minor injuries, they heal 100%.  It's no different than a mild ankle sprain in that it's a very slight tear to one of the ligaments.

The bad A/C separations are Grades 4, 5 and 6.  At this level, every ligament is completely ruptured, and the Grade indicates how / where the clavicle is displaced.  That is, where it has moved to vs. its correct anatomical position.  They always require surgery.  Lower grades are treated with rest, ice and PT.

I had a Grade 4.  I'd be very happy if the pain was intermittent and in the mild / moderate category.

I just got back from the visit with the orthopedic specialist. About half of the displacement is gone and the bones are fairly well lined up. So no surgery. Now I just haft to keep my arm still for two more weeks and not pick up anything. If the next X-ray looks good then I can start some mobility movements.

Do you need a driver for the S-10 while you are re-couperating ?

Patience can help you heal faster. I kept trying to use my split thumb and it took longer to heal. Stay the course lad, stay the course!

Yep just take it easy and keep that arm immobilized.
Now I know it's hard on cars to sit, so if you need me to drive up and take your Vette for a drive in the country. I know Kristy has her hands full with the move, taking care of you, etc...  Or I could just come up to Iowa Park, and drive it back to Abilene.  You don't have to thank me, that's what friends are for.   :thumb:

Yeah, we might need a new driver for the Summers Last Blast race in August.

Oh I can still drive that one with one hand. It rides really smooth too.
