Sorry in advance if this is the wrong place or has been done to death.

I'm looking for something that can hook into my car's auxiliary input.  Will be fed by an android tablet/phone with usb on the go.

So my requirements are:
1) under $100
2) can be powered by 12Vdc (car accessory port) - i don't want to drain the tablets power unnecessarily.
3) usb input
4) small
5) decent but not great sound - it's in a car while driving after all.

No one? Did I post in the wrong place or has it been done to death somewhere?

I suspect the external supply requirement probably killed it.

Agree with John, dacs with USB inputs will be usb powered.

You could use a car USB power adaptor, and rig up something to feed that power to a USB dac

You could use a Schiit Fulla 2. Just need to use a 12V to 5V receptacle to plug into the car accessory port like you would use for charging you phone in the car.

Actually I think the Fulla is even easier, it has 2 usb ports. It would seem I can drop the 12v requirement.

Use it with phones, tablets, or computers with low-powered USB ports. We’ve included a second USB port for power input. Plug in your phone charger (or any other 5V DC source with micro-USB output) and Fulla 2 tells your source it doesn’t need any power.

If the Fulla doesnt work out for you, you can also buy or DIY a USB cable that splits the data and power. This will give you some more flexibiltiy in picking other USB DACs that normally wouldnt allow external power.

 :duh: :duh: :duh:

I found one on my closet! It's a hifime uae23+.  I verified with them that it draws minimal usb power when using the external power connection.

Yes, "found in closet" is the ultimate Cheap & Cheerful.  Any idea on what the original price was?

It was $74, and that included some upgraded parts (a txco? ).  The description is 96khz/24bit, es9023, te7022, coax out. I hope that qualifies as c&c.

Purchasing it was confusing- they had something like 3 or 4 versions on sale between their US and other store, all called uae23+.

Oh yeah, I wasn't qualifying you, just curious as it looks a little more substantial than what I usually see from hifime on eBay, nice find.  It does seem like a lot of these companies drift in the wind with their product line as they're just selling rebranded units.  But for the price, who cares, if it breaks simply buy another one.
