I heard him solo at a guitar clinic once. Amazing player.

Coryell got his rep as a fusion pioneer (a genre I have never cared for) but also had numerous releases in other 'flavors'. My favorites are 'Scheherazade/Bolero' and 'European Impressions', which are both solo acoustic albums. 'S/B' was released on CD, but 'EI' never was AFAIK.

My first intro to LC was "The Lion and the Ram" and is still one of my favorite jazz albums.

My first intro was "Lady Coryell" and "Barefoot Boy". Still listen to the latter, as well as some of his later recordings.

RIP

This is so sad for many reasons. I feel fortunate to have had the experience of watching Coryell's career take off with Coryell, Spaces and Larry Coryell at the Village Vanguard. Caught several late sixties/early 70's concerts. Very important and impressive contributions to early fusion.
