iFi iDSD USB vs. S/PDIF implementation
« on: 16 Feb 2017, 05:11 pm »
I asked this question of Pez in a PM, then I realized that other folks may have experience with this and/or benefit from the answer.

In my main rig, I am considering moving towards an Ethernet-based streamer/interface to start playing all music.  Hey, all my music is online already, so why not?  Anyway, there are numerous candidates that have gotten great press, in particular Sonore uRendu (USB-based) and Rednet 3 (S/PDIF).  Since I haven't settled on a streamer yet, perhaps it makes sense to stay with an iDSD to maintain future flexibility.

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had experience with the iFi USB vs. S/PDIF implementations and can comment on same w.r.t. sound quality.  Also, as a larger question, does anyone have any views on why USB or S/PDIF would be the better interface for an Ethernet-based streamer?

Thanks,  -dB
