James,

is this new Sony drive a pure 44.1/16 like the Philips drive that was used in the BCD-1?

Im trying to make the right decision here fellas help me out if you may.  Iam seriously thinking of getting the B135sst2 or 3 what are the down falls of a integrated over the pre power combo really.  I have a pre power cyrus kit now and want to move out of it.  I will be ordering the BDA-2 with the 135 as well the BDP-2 in the fall.  I want something that is no fuss no muss and don't have to upgrade for 10 years.  Im just really tired of the British game good better best and next year we have good better and even better.  All I will do with this amp or pre power is play from a CD transport (cyrus) and the BDP-2 in the fall my mind is made up.  Im just on the fence about pre power vs integrated for sound quality is it a loss compared.  TIA

I should be a littler more clear.  My cyrus stereo 200 power amp is a really good amp I don't really want to get rid of it.  Would I be better keeping that power amp buying a BP6 or 25 with the BDA-2 and then having a pre power combo. Then in time moving into a bryston power amp down the road.  or would the 135 be just as good anyhow as the pre 25 or 6 with that cyrus power amp.

Can the 135 hold its own against a pre power combination.  Who would win the sonic details or would it be close to even.  I can keep my Cyrus power amp pick up a 25 used for a decent price I'm ordering the bda-2 today and the bdp-2 later.  I'm just curious if the 135 would hold its own or it would be outclassed by this pre power combo?

Hi

The Bryston B135 is essentially a BP-17 Preamp and a 2.5B Power amp in a single chassis. So you really are choosing packaging rather than performance difference.

We'll James that's it.  I will be ordering the 135 today along with the bda-2.  How do I know if that 135 is of the cubed version.

Just make sure you say NEW version of the B135 to the dealer or have him send me the order and I will take care of it for you.

James, I have a B135 and in the future was going to upgrade for more power, the new 4bsst3 looks pretty tempting. Are you saying that by using the B135 as a pre would be no different from a 17 pre and 4b power? apart from no balanced outputs?

Yes that is correct - when we build an integrated we use exactly the same parts as in the separates.

I went for the 2.5 cubed to start my Bryston run.  Next will be the pre and dac but for now I'll use my Cyrus.

Of late there seems to be a growing trend of high-power integrated amplifiers from a number of companies, including Hegel, ModWright etc.  The B135 is a wonderful integrated in its own right but has there been any serious consideration given to building a higher power integrated, based on the 3B or 4B?

A pairing of a BP17 or BP6 together with a 3B in a single box would likely make a killer integrated that would be able to handle almost 90% of the speakers out there.

With the higher powered 3B Cubed, I'm sure such an integrated would get a great following.
