JohnR-Ancient Belkin Cable Purchase/Question
« on: 3 Sep 2010, 08:24 pm »
JohnR, or anyone who knows...
Remember when we bought that group buy of Belkin cable to make speaker runs over at Harmonic Discord?  I never used it, and now I plan to buy a rooftop antenna for OTA (over the air) TV broadcasts.  Could I use that Belkin cable to run from the antenna to the TV?
A friend said to me:
RG-6 type is larger but better for UHF... where alot of the DTV signals live!
Isn't that Belkin close enough?
Thanks,
Lyndon

Hi Lyndon - I think that would have been Belden 89259? If so, that's a 75 ohm cable - so if that's the right spec for that application then it should work but perhaps someone with knowledge of RF might chime in.

Here's the datasheet - http://www.belden.com/techdatas/metric/89259.pdf

At UHF it has more attenuation than RG-6/U - I don't know if it matters though.

Yes! That was the right number.
But I just couldn't get all the parts together for this holiday weekend.
Only one place in this huge valley that had the right antenna, then I needed
cable crimpers,  roof braces, more wire, lightning arrestor, ladder to get on the roof...
and of course, the electronics store closed at 5 PM, and won't open til Tuesday, after
the holiday.  Pretty frustrating.
Thanks again, John
