All,

I just put all of my home theater  gear in cabinet so that it's not visible.  The wife got tired of seeing it.

The cabinet does have slatted doors, but it's not in line with the television and the slats don't provide reliable access for the remote's signals.

My DVR is a Comcast/Xfinity sourced Motorola DVR.  The AV receiver is an early 2000's Onkyo receiver.

Please recommend a low cost IR remote repeater. The max I want to spend is around 40 bucks.

Kindest Regards,

I built my AV cabinet using plywood from HomeDepot. The doors are also made of plywood. I purchased infrared kit from Parts Express and it works good.

If the Motorola box has an IR pass through you might be able to use two IR extenders.

The first would be a receiver that plugs into the IR input on the Motorola. The "eye" would be placed somewhere out in the open where the transmitter can see it.

The second would be a transmitter that plugs into the IR pass through and is fastened over the IR receiver area on the front panel of the Onkyo.

About $5 each at Monoprice last time I checked.
