Bryston WiFi Dongle Accessory Kit
« on: 31 Jul 2017, 04:16 pm »

The Bryston WiFi Dongle Accessory Kit is a product that can be purchased by itself or with the purchase of a Bryston Digital Player.  At the cost of a single USB on the BDP it will gain WiFi capability no longer requiring the user/installer to run a network cable, setting up a WiFi bridge or Powerline AV kit. We are simply offering this WiFi kit for convenience and to remove any guess work from choosing a correct module.  The WiFi Dongle Accessory Kit will be available by September and will correspond with the release of our S2.36 firmware release, which among other things will include comprehensive support for the accessory kit as described in the manual (a preliminary copy is linked below).  The BDP firmware has contained WiFi support since S2.18, however the S2.36 update or newer is highly recommended for this accessory.  The WiFi dongle included in this kit is capable of upto 300Mbps 802.11n and will work with 802.11a/b/g/n wireless capable networks.  Most if not all 802.11ac networks should be backwards compatible with one if not all of these versions.  An 802.11ac dongle wasn’t chosen for a variety of reasons, the primary of which was the limitation USB 2 interface.  The kit will include:
  • WiFi Dongle
  • 3’ USB extension cable (to avoid blocking neighbouring USB Ports and positioning the dongle away from gear if needed)

Hi Chris,

The dongle is a good idea. Plug and play?

Please put this on the Bryston website eventually.

Thanks,
Pete

Cool.
Can we order it directly from you, or need to order through importer?

It doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere in the manual, but does the BDP-1 support this kit?

Yes it does. But use the bottom rear jack. Not the front panel jacks.

Hi James,

Is this being sold anywhere or only directly by Bryston? Is the price finalized?

I asked my local dealer and he told me this is still "forthcoming". Also I called Audio Advisor and the guy had no idea what I was talking about. What gives?

Hi Folks,

Chris can answer in more detail but basically the DONGLE is a USB Thumbdrive that plugs into the rear of the BDP which allows it to be wireless and attach to your network. Helpful if you can not run an Ethernet cable to your setup.

We are still looking into it but have sent a few out as a beta and so far seems to be working OK.  I think the price will be around $80.00.

We also are working on an internal wireless system for the BDP - which is almost complete. - looking for a name for this option - BONGLE ???

We are also going to be offering SS or Rotary drives as a factory option going forward.

currently i believe only the wifi usb dongle has made it onto the price list and i believe James is correct, it is $80.  The internal version for the BDP-3 should be available shortly, parts list has been finalized and stock should arrive sometime in December.  Im not sure why the internal storage options arn't listed yet, as far as I am aware we have a small stock of each storage option and is likely just making its way through the paper work.

I hereby name it...Bryston DONG-1.

Second option is: BNA-1 (Bryston Network Adapter)

It's consistent with your naming. You're welcome.

So these are working fine, but are still not being sold officially? Any comments on sound you guys want to make?

I would have loved to try one out and compare MPD (NAS) and Roon via ethernet vs. adapter, as well as against local attached storage.
