I cannot comment on the sonics, but I can on the performance.  This is seminal Coltrane who at the time was a deeply spiritual man.  This is, perhaps, his most personal recording.  And, young McCoy Tyner, around 24 at the time, is beautifully impassioned.  Another recording with this kind of weight is simply titled Coltrane on the Impulse label.  Listen to the track Out Of This World one he didn't write, btw, but he makes it his vehicle and under the influence of a little ganja once lifted me onto his broad back as tho he was a giant bird and I am a babe in diapers to see the world from beyond as he did.  Up WE went.  I could feel the strength in his wings.

I totally agree on the significance of the album. I own 2 CD versions and one LP, but there are too many reissues, so just wondering if this one sounds as they promise-- like the master tape!
