The end of an era.  A true icon in the world of acting and sci-fi, he will be missed.

Probably just an icon in the world of sci-fi. Wasn't much of an actor.

While everyone remembers Spock, I liked his narration on the 70's tv series "In Search of...." which was one of the coolest shows ever for a 10 year old kid. 8)

I remember that well...I used to get so excited when the intro came on.

How did such a B-list (C or D-list, actually) actor become such an icon?

Disagree. Typecasting not his fault.

He had an excellent role on Fringe as Dr. William Bell and his reprise of Spock in Star Trek (2009) was quite good.
I think that even though he is an icon, his body of work and the impact he had on multiple generations of young people that went on have careers as engineers, scientists and astronauts defines his legacy.

You honestly think that he and the crew of the Starship Enterprise had a significant bearing on the careers of young people in the US?

That's a reach. Anyone geeky enough to have found some kind of connection in that campy show was already well on their way to becoming a cubicle dweller.

I think maybe it's time to remove this guy from the thread. This is getting ridiculous.

Agreed.  A much beloved actor has passed. If you didn't like the guy surely you can find a better place to complain about his acting than in a eulogy thread. :nono:

From what I understand, he was a great guy.

He will live forever, I never suppose he would die.
Willian Shatner must be devastated.

Maybe you are from a younger generation and fail to realize the impact Gene Roddenberry's vision had on many young people of the time.
It was a time of many injustices and turmoil in the world. Star Trek was the first TV show to address these issues of racial inequality, war, greed, environmental devastation, and humans bringing themselves to the brink of extinction through their own selfish acts.
Gene had a  vision of a time where we got through all the bad stuff and pulled back from the brink of extinction to pursue a better way of life by all working together to make a better world for all. He showed us through his stories our own petty faults and shortcomings.
He inspired generations of scientists and people that believe we can build a better world for all and are actively doing so.
How many TV shows can claim the same ?
Mr. Nimoy understood this and was always very grateful to be a part of it. He was a very down to earth and humble individual,
and always carried himself with respect to the public that made him an icon.
Not like some of the headline grabbing idiots that pervade our society today.
Maybe you don't get it so you mock it...I understand that. But I think you picked the wrong thread to express your distaste of
Mr. Nimoy and the show.
