Power into 16 ohms?
« on: 12 May 2017, 11:30 am »
The Mosfet power module is rated to deliver 25wpc into 8 ohms and 45 watts into 4 ohms.  If I run into 16 ohm speakers, how much power should I expect to see under the same conditions?  Would it be 12 wpc or the same 25 wpc?

Hi roscoe65,

It would be approx. 12wpc RMS into 16-ohms.

And I'd expect that to be plenty for any 16 ohm speakers I've ever seen. They are all pretty efficient IME.

Hi roscoeii,

It really depends on factors such as:

1) The sensitivity of your speakers
2) How loud you are looking to achieve (SPL)
3) The distance between you and the speakers
4) Room acoustics
5) Choice of music

Hope this helps,

Vinnie

1) 99dB
2) 90dB
3) 3 meters
4) Well controlled - carpeted, soft furnishings, treatment behind speakers.
5) Varied and energetic.

Speakers in question are two-way Altec 414A/802D/32A.  Similar to the Shindo Petit LaTour.

Hi roscoe65,

Based on what you posted, I believe you'll have plenty of power then  :thumb:
