Hi John and Happy Easter.  I just replaced all of the Lpads in my RM40s on a whim as general maintenance.   The tweeter pads were original 14 years old and the midranges probably 6 years old.  It is a noticeable improvement.  Just a suggestion for older RM40 owners.

This also reminds me, to remind you to at least once a year, take your L-Pads and rotate the shafts all the way clockwise and then all the way counter clockwise maybe 20-30 times.

This helps clear off any oxidation or corrosion on the contact points.

Just be VERY CAREFUL in the turning process, as the shafts are rather delicate.

My L-Pad on one of my RM30 was not turning correctly.  I purchased a replacement part from part-express:
           http://www.parts-express.com/speaker-l-pad-attenuator-100w-mono-1-shaft-8-ohm--260-265

Part number match exactly to the one I replace.  Turned out there was glue stopping it from turning and it was not defective.
