Hi Georgopoulos.
The top section is an Omega model 7F extended range driver mounted as Open Baffle dipole.
The bottom part is two 12" Eminence Acoustinator (Guitar speakers) in a H frame configuration, therefore Open Baffle Dipole and are reverse firing position and each set of two subs are driven by a GR Research 250watts ss
plate amplifier.
No tweeter anywhere.
The Omega 7F do have a built in tweeter cone.
I hope I have answered your question, if not, give it a try again.
Thanks for your interest.

Hi all.
My Decware SE84C+ SET amplifier is at the hospital getting looked at by the
electronic doctor.
In the mean time, I have connected my Niteshade Audio NS-10 (6L6 SE pentode)
to my Omega 7F and subwoofers bass supplementers.

My temporary Niteshade set up sounds good, but I have to admit, that it's not equal to my SET Decware.
There is something missing.
Harmonics, details, echos, ambiance... Or whatever you want to call it.
That little something makes all the difference in the world.
However, I have to admit that with 10 wpc instead of 2 wpc, there's more dynamics, more slam, but, but even with that, I do prefer my Decware, if it could have 5 wpc I would be a little happier. With 2 wpc I am on the border line.
I hope one day Louis come up with a 98db driver.
In the mean time, I enjoy what I have.

Going up in efficiency can have drawbacks as well. Noise in your system can be augmented exponentially and can take a lot of time, effort and cash to cure. Going from some 101dB Zu speakers to a 93dB Omega was a boon for me!

Hi Good Times.
Just a few minutes ago I was having a Bad Times,
I am trying to make some kind of rime.
Trying to make a rime and not succeeding,
is better than doing nothing at all.
O.K. now into the hart of my topic.
I agree with what you wrote up-stairs.
Only 95db would be already better...
No further comment on that,
I said many times that I was happy with what I have,
so I will be quiet about it.
I mentioned previously that my Decware amplifier was at the hospital and I am afraid that he will have some kind of output transformer transplant.
Anyway.
Now I am using my Niteshade Audio NS-10 amplifier and I did not like the sound, it was too aggressive, too shouty. I had a look at the tubes that were installed and they were: Sovtek 5881/6L6WGC, so I removed them and instead installed some Sovtek 6L6WXT+ and WOW what an improvement.
Before I did the switch, I never thought there would be such a big improvement, the sound is now much less aggressive, smoother.
That's better, still not to the same level as my Decware, but for now, it will do.
The Omega 7F are very revealing.
Thanks Louis.

Hello Guy,

Maybe you can see if Decware will send you a new output transformer.  To my knowledge they are not "off the shelf" but are a special wind so you will have to get it from them.  My experience with Decware is they are quite accommodating.  I'm sure they would understand your situation in Vietnam as far as shipping and customs etc.

Hi Rob.
(...or maybe Robert?)
A few months back I had a problem with the input toggle switch
and I've contacted Steve, he was very helpful
and we solve the problem after only a few e-mails.
When the output transformer failed the first time,
I decided that it would be faster to give the amplifier to a local technician
to fix the problem, the local technician said it was the transformer
that was burnt and he re-wounded it,
which here in Vietnam it's something easy and not expensive.
Now after a month or two the same left channel fail,
but this time not completely, (The sound was faint)
so I thought it might be again the output transformer,
that's why I did not contacted Steve
and I give the amplifier to the same technician,
so he can repair it under warranty.
If he can't fix it, then I will ask Steve to send me a new transfer, if that's the problem ? ? ?
I hate living on planet Vietnam, where everything is complicated...

By the way, these days the thermometer is gone crazy with close to 100F...

Hello Guy,

The temperature here in the South Okanagan will probably hit 100F by June or July.  If your house doesn't have air conditioning, I would park the tube amps and run an affordable gainclone to get you through the heat.  I am finding the inexpensive AudioEngine N22 to be quite impressive, and although it does generate some heat, it runs a lot cooler than a tube amp.  I had a an SE84C+ and it ran quite hot, so I never ran it in the summer except during cool weather.

Hi Rob.
We do have air conditioning in our house as a matter of fact,
we have two units.
One in our bed room to cool us down during our bed shaking session
and one in my penthouse also called:
My listening room.
Minds you they are small units 10,000 BTU units.
When I want to listen to music for long period of time,
I put the air conditioning on full blast
and wait outside for about 30 minutes
before entering the oven (Yesterday it was 37C inside and 40C outside)
I have a floor fan set on LO that's
aiming at the amplifier, normally my Decware,
but now (temporally) the Niteshade Audio.
That's enough to keep the amplifier at a decent operating temperature.
I do have a Sony ss receiver, but I use it for ambient/back ground music
when I work in my office, which is part of my listening room.
By the way, even with the air conditioning at full blast,
the temperature never gets below 28C in the listening room...
Here they still build houses without any insulation.
They don't know that insulation is not only to keep house warm during the winter,
but also house cool during the summer.
That's life on planet Vietnam.

Guy, if you live in Vietnam you should enjoy the warmth.   :)  Haven't you (and those "silly" tube amps) acclimated yet?

Hi JLM.
I do enjoy the scorching heat of Vietnam,
when I am at the beach that is. :thumb:
Not when I am working or even at home trying to relax.
Both my tube amps come from (Are made in) the north of USA,
therefore, like me (from Montreal, Canada), they will never get use to the
hell like temperature. :nono: :duh:

Hi all.
This afternoon I did some minor changes to my system.
Since my Decware SE84C+ amplifier is sick at the hospital
I temporarely put up my Niteshade Audio NS-10 SE pentode
amplifier and while I had my two hands available,
I've move the Rega Apollo CD player on the top shelve
and I have installed permanantely my Audio 13
interconnects switch box.
I found the problem with my Bottlehead Crack that had some humm, a capacitor was missing, I've tried with a pair of jumpers a capacitor that I had and the humm is gone, now my Bottlehead Crack headphone amplifier is dead quiet, you have to look at the tubes to see if it's on.
This evening, I did some (serious) listening with my new/improved set up.
I moved around my speakers, they are now tilted so that the sound is in from of me, the sound stage is better, it's now going more or less up to the wall, of course, depending on the recording.
I've put back the back curtains/drapes the way they were and I lef the red table and the black Asian chair where they were previously.
I am 95% happy with the sound. :thumb:
Thanks Louis.
Canada Rob, you won't have any problem selling Louis speakers.
Of course some bass traps and absorber panels would make my listening enjoymet greater, but for now it's O.K. with me. When I have more $ $ $ I will seriously think about up grading the acoustic of my listening room.
Just wanted to share the above with the AC members that are interested in my audio stuff.

Guy 13
I look forward to invite that young american fellow that plays drums to come to listen again to my system.
Last time, he fell of his chair, this time I might have to give him CPR.

Guy,

There is a saying: "necessity is the mother of invention".  My hat is off to you for all the work you do with your system to get top performance without going out and spending a fortune, but working with what you have.  I would love to sit in front of your system, as I believe it would sound very good indeed.  Keep up the good work, and thanks for sharing your experience and photos.  Always interesting.  :thumb:

Hi Rob.
Thanks for the compliments, highly appreciate, especially when they are rare.
I have no merit,
since I have no other choice than use the very little imagination I have.
I have to be inventive.
Up to now, I am fairly happy with the sound I get from my system,
of course I would like to up-grade many components in my system, for exemple the (Crapy and overprice) Rega P3 turntable to a VPI Scout, for me even a UTurn Orbit might be better than what I have now.
One thing is sure, I will not up-grade my Omega 7F I might be temptend to buy the 5F, but Louis want to keep them for himself, can't blame him fot that.
I still have to do some little tweeking, but I have plenty of time for that, since I am stuck on planet Vietnam for a few more years.
Thanks again.
