BDR Cones v. IsoBlocks
« on: 16 Mar 2009, 09:05 pm »
I just put a set of 3 small Black Diamond Racing Cones under my Parasound 2100 preamp. The BDRCs replaced a set of 4 Mapleshade IsoBlocks (those sandwich blocks w/ cork in the middle and rubber laminate top & botttom).

The BDRCs improved dynamics and clarity. Also, reduced that "shrill CD sound"   :duh: (that's what I call it) on my reference recording with said sound ("Skin" by Beth Hart).

I was lucky to get these used for $38 including shipping.  aa

I had a similar experience sometime back... I swapped out a set of the Isoblocks I had under my Aerial 10T speakers (hardwood floors) with BDR cones and my jaw dropped with how much it tightened up the bass.  Nice tweak, particularly at the used price you got.

Guys the Isoblocks are not made for those applications. They are to be used under plinths to isolate the plinth from vibrations from below. Cones and spikes are for speakers or components.
if you use any wood or composite shelf use the isoblocks under that and use cones for the component. Let us know the result.
