Digitize 78rpm vinyl recordings
« on: 26 Jul 2017, 06:39 pm »
Can anyone advise me on getting some vinyl recordings digitized? Format could be redbook, or up to 96-24. I'm looking for someone who might be willing to do this, my turntables are slower rpm and need work. The current need is for some 78 rpm recordings my wife has of her mother singing, that she would like to be able to listen to.

If I still had my Audio Technica LP120 USB I'd offer up some help, but I traded it after upgrading my TT. It seemed well built and does 33 1/3, 45 and 78rpm plus has a USB output you hook to your computer to convert to digital. I planned on doing that with some of my favorites, but I never did. Here is a link to the Amazon product page https://smile.amazon.com/AT-LP120BK-USB-Direct-Drive-Professional-Turntable-USB/dp/B00GA9COMM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1501155922&sr=8-2&keywords=atlp120+usb though I'm sure you could find one used.

Do you have a 78rpm stylus for your cartridge, or a 78rpm cartridge that you could use?  If so, you can play the 78rpm discs at 45rpm and capture the audio.  Then use the freeware Equalizer software (from the author of Clickrepair) to undo the RIAA EQ, apply proper "period" EQ, and adjust the speed of the recording.

I found someone online that will digitize and remove noise for $7.50 per side. This will meet our needs for two records. Thanks for your suggestions!
