Protect your garage door from break-in!

A PSA, I accidentally found this today while looking into automatic garage door closers.

I guess its pretty easy to break into a garage door, with a coat hanger and a piece of wood.

I also saw a shield on amazon for $20 to guard against this, but I'm going to make something, should be easy enough.

I have two doors to secure, so I'd rather build than buy.

Good reason not to have windows in the garage doors.  But I do have a window in the walk in door to the garage.   :(

My garage doors have windows, it does look nice.  And this seems easy enough to fix.
If you don't want to diy, but one of these

And if the garage is connected to the house, it's also generally a good idea to have a deadbolt on the door that enters into the home from there as well.

+1 but my backup is a 40 cal. semi auto. Exit hole is the size of a Buick.

Not very effective when you're not there to use it.  You'd be better off with a dog.

We have a security system that covers the garage walk-in door, but it doesn't cover the three overhead garage doors.  OTOH maybe someone will steal a few of wifey's show rabbits that cost $2000/year to feed.   :nono:

Sadly videos like that are part of the reason I chose a garage door with no windows when we replaced the old one last year.

I keep a very large wrench hanging by the garage entry door for personal security.  If someone shows up with a gun I will gladly show them around to take whatever they want.  Not many guns up in Canada.

Adding a zip tip may be a very simple, cheap solution to fix this.

It needs to be able to release in a real emergency, but be strong enough to defeat the coat hanger.

BTW, I also have a camera pointed at my driveway and garage doors, hopefully that would deter someone from breaking in like this too.

Sadly, videos like this also show people how to do it...  :?
