I'll be there as usual with a diy room. For this year I'll be showing a pair of open back full range single driver speakers using 8" Dayton Audio PS220-8 full range drivers with Eminence Alpha 15A H-frame subwoofers, with each sub driven by a 100w plate amp. For amplification I'll have a Cambridge Audio integrated amp, plus any tube amp I can borrow from Bruce Heran of OddWatt Audio. The source will be a Cambridge Audio 840C. I'll also be sharing the best sound enhancing tweak I've ever used, one that always results in a significant improvement in the psychoacoustic properties of the system, a case of icy cold Shiner Bock.  :thumb:

Just saw this thread come up again.  I'll be flying in early Friday morning and out Sunday evening.

Fred, it will be nice to have a chance to meet you - the info online about your early arrays was an inspiration for me when getting (back) into this hobby a few years ago.  I didn't get to building out a pair, but your example inspired me to start chasing after a great system I could actually afford to have in my home, and that such a thing really did exist. :D  I'm a little tied up by life and indecision right now, but it has been a fun way to pass the time and I've met some really great people along the way.

See y'all in TX!

We also need to make some sort of plans to go to Dodie's again   8)

Fred - I can bring my Transcendent T16 OTL amp if you want to try it on your new creations.

I will also have a selection of Texas Microbrews - much more choice this year with all of the new ones that have opened.

Dodie's sounds like fun, but this time let's clarify which one  :duh:
Yes, I would love to try an OTL amp with my speakers.

Sad to say, our member Capt. Humble lost his lease and that location of Dodie's has shut down.  There are other Dodie's seafoods around, and the food is good, but it's just not the same.

Didn't know that Dodie's had closed.

I do plan on trying Babe's for their fried chicken this year.  Highly recommended to me by quite a few folks.

Fred - will bring the T16 for you to try.

Babe's has the best fried chicken I've ever tasted....and my great grandmother was one of the best cooks in rural east Texas.  I'm drooling just thinkin' about it.

No, I'm coming up from Houston, so I usually just bring a case or two of selected microbrews for sharing.

If I'm not mistaken, he had refurbished Quad 57s 2 years ago. That system sounded very nice indeed.

I've selected the equipment I'll be taking to the LSAF. It includes a Cambridge Audio Azur 840 CD player, a Parasound P3 preamp, a Belkin power conditioner, OddWatt Audio OddBlock KT88 monoblocks, OddWatt Audio PoddBlock EL84 monoblocks (not pictured), and "The Chairs" full range single driver open back speakers with powered subs.  :thumb:

Hi Scott
What room are you in?
Title: Re: LSAF 2013
Post by: Danny Richie on 29 Apr 2013, 03:40 pm
The show pair is burning in....

The flash is so bright on the camera that it lights up everything. In my room light you really don't see anything through the grill cloth on these.

Funny thing is I have three sets of world class amps in there but I am using a cheap digital amp for burn in. That's it setting on a little grey pad on top of my DAC.

Post by: Danny Richie on 29 Apr 2013, 03:55 pm
Sorry, they are hard to photograph. The flash causes reflections from all the chrome amps too. Without the flash it was too dark.

I'm going simple this year.  Didn't build a computer system this time around. :?

Source:   Marantz SACD player
Amp:       Scott 222c (just rebuilt by Craig at NOSValves)
Speakers:   GoldenEar Aon3 bookshelf
Power conditioning:    MajikBUSS

As always, free Texas cold frosty microbrews. :D   I lose money per beer, but make it up in volume.....

Looking forward to hearing Fred's new project.

Fun has already begun.  Just got back from Babe's for dinner.  Now that is fried chicken!  The home style vegetables and sides were great.

This was after the GR-Research room setup with the Super-7's and Dodd Audio battery monoblocks were setup and making music in the Allen Room.   The PI Audio Group room treatments, UberBUSS and BatteryBUSS were setup for power conditioning.

They've still got GR on the video screen incorrectly in front of the Carrolton room. . . in case anyone can do a little administrative cleanup.

I can't check in quite yet, so I'm hanging in the lobby.  :(  Where is a good place to get breakfast within walking distance?  Sorry. . . I'm new here. . . :green:

Hey guys, we've been moved. We had an issue with the Corrollton room. So they moved us to the Alan room. It is a great sized room but at the back of the hotel. So to come see us take the main hallway on the right (as you come through the front door) and head all the way to the back. We are right by the back door.

For those of us who have lived in North Texas, we know Babe's Chicken!!!!  For those of us in South Texas, Babe's is a very different kind of fun (you can imagine)!  I always get a funny, funny look when I talk about going to Babe's (particularly if I say it as "after church with the family") down south.

This was after the GR-Research room setup with the Super-7's and Dodd Audio battery monoblocks were setup and making music in the Allen Room.   The PI Audio Group room treatments, UberBUSS and BatteryBUSS were setup for power conditioning.

I bet that sounds great!  Have fun...

Best,
John

Another good year up in Dallas.   The breakfast conversations each morning were a lot of fun.  Plenty of opinions to go around over eggs/bacon/coffee

I only made it to a few of my close neighbors (I was in 214)
Lots of folks coming around taking pictures.
Probably should have closed up for a couple of hours to make the rounds, but there was a steady flow of folks coming through.

As usual, got introduced to a few new musical artists, so I have some CDs/SACDs to buy now.

The Scott 222c/GoldenEar Aon3 combination worked out surprisingly well.  They even made some pretty good bass by Saturday morning.
