VAC-1 damping tweak
« on: 12 Jun 2007, 05:20 pm »
i've been playing around with Black Hole damping pad for a while now....less is defnitely more with this and any other damping material i've used.

Over the weekend i carefully pulled my VAC-1 power supply apart and began tapping.   the tiny chassis does ring a bit so i added small strips to the top (2 pieces to the top plate) bottom and sides.   No idea how or why, but my VPP-1 sounds like it has more bass and overall, more control.   The high freq performance hasn't changed, but with overdamping i'm sure it could so be cautious.

one piece of BHP that's about 1" x 6" long, cut up into smaller pieces, was all it took.   the front and back aluminum faceplates only took small stamp size pieces...but they don't ring now.

from what i'm learning, if you deaden a panel you've gone too far.  just change the ring so its a bit deeper is all.

i won't go near the VPP-1 with this stuff, its really sensitive to changing the vibrations...
